Program Description:
January 20, 2011 and January 25, 2011
- The proposed rule includes provisions
to:
- Require a reading plan for Indiana
schools.
- Define reading instruction requirements and the components of
the plan.
- Require elementary schools to submit to the Department of Education
a reading plan which includes measurable student achievement goals, specific
interventions for students who have reading deficiency and students who
are retained, and the retention of a student in Grade 3 who does not
have a passing score on the reading portion of the Grade 3 English/language
arts ISTEP+.
- Establish
exceptions to the retention requirement.
- Require schools, with
certain exceptions, to utilize the reading framework adopted by the State
Board of Education as a portion of the required elementary curriculum.
