Response to Instruction/Intervention
(RTI) is a systematic school-wide process to provide necessary
academic and behavioral supports to meet the needs of all
students. It is a process that draws upon what educators
have learned from research and best practice within a standard-based
learning environment. The American Federation of Teachers
(AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA) have been
full participants in RTI discussions and decision-making
at the national level, including support of the National
Summit on RTI. The keynote address will share practitioner
perspectives on the topics of foundations of RTI, essential
elements of an effective process, and implications for implementation.
